June 22, 2010: Prep Work for the Walls

We have two new guys working today: Riley and Charlie Jr (Charlie's son and Jon & Eric's nephew) are helping Eric this week.

Brian and Colin from C&J Solar Solutions were here this morning to set the pins for the solar panels.

And Tony & Tony from Pacific Plumbing began their prep work for the bathrooms.

The waves were up in Ewa, so after work, Charlie and Roger came by to fetch Charlie Jr. Have fun, guys!

It's fascinating for me to see all the detail that continues to go into the house, things that I've never really paid attention to before. Like the skirting that goes over the beams atop the CMUs. And the little boards with the circle vents and screens to keep the area above the ceiling cool but keep out birds and pests, and the techboard which is being used instead of ply for the roof to keep the house naturally cooler. And the complexity of the trusses which gives the roof strength and can hold stuff like solar panels and photo voltaic panels and maybe climbers who just want to look at the stars! Fun stuff! All these guys are real amazing, how they can put all this together!

I love it! Thank you, Jesus, for the skills and talents you have given to all these men and women who are putting out their very best to give us a house that we can enjoy and share with all of them and so many others!

June 21, 2010: Prep Work

Today the roofers continued to roof, and Eric and Thomas did stuff to prepare to wrap the house and place the windows so that the siding can go up on Saturday.

**sigh** Thomas got a "real" job, so today was sort of his last day on our job, unless he is able to come on the weekends. Thanks for all your hard, fine work, Thomas!

I am very excited that the plumeria branches that I stuck into this pot are starting to sprout leaves (thanks, Charisa, for watering while I was gone :). These are branches from the tree that used to grow on the side of the old house, so it will be nice to have their keiki continue their legacy of beautiful blossoms.

And this one is my art submission... Mango Moon! Diana's tree, not ours... ours said "aloha" while I was gone. Many years of fine mangoes, but it had become diseased. Hopefully we can find a new, less rooty tree to replace it.

June 19, 2010: Home

I arrived home the afternoon of the 17th, and am now rested. I am enjoying the house, even in it's current state! It's fun to sit in and relax or talk or read.

So here is the comparison of when I left to now:

What a lot of work they've done in 2-1/2 weeks! And it's amazing when I look inside to see all the intricate and detailed work. There is definitely a lot that goes into building a house!

Ahi Fever Tournament this weekend, so the guys are taking a Father's Day weekend break. But it's back to work on Monday!

June 18, 2010: Home Again, Home Again...

So good to be home! So much cooler than Florida (record temps, daily thunderstorms, humidity!). And the house has made so much progress! It's fun to walk through, and I can feel the difference that the tech roofing stuff makes in the coolness of the house. Maybe I'll get a cot and a bedroll and move in already!

So here's what I got to see when I returned...

The windows were delivered today by two very nice guys from Pella. It rained hard last night so the roofers weren't able to work today, but they'll be back on Monday.

June 16, 2010: Laying the Shingles

Charisa took these for me today. Excited to see how everything looks when I get home!

I love the color of the shingles... can't wait to see it in real life! Home soon...

June 13, 2010: Roof Ply On

More photos from Bennett. If we lived in Samoa, this would be a very livable house already... very cool and airy!

June 7, 2010: Trusses--Before & After

I will mostly be just posting photos as I get them from home for the next couple weeks. No lyrical comments (sorry, Jon & Rachel): since I'm not really there to interact and ponder things, I don't have much to say except that IT'S LOOKING FABULOUS! So excited to get home and touch it myself!
