October 31, 2010: Pantry Shelving

Today Eric and Roger cleaned and cleaned and cleaned the kitchen floor in preparation for tiling.

Rodney laid the tile using that cool laser tool that makes everything so straight.

No stepping on the tile for 24 hours!

Oh, and I discovered that the guys had put in the toe kick veneers the day before!

Eric started installing the shelving in the pantry.

Tomorrow he will install the facing and the post.

October 29, 2010: Finished with the Oven Cabinet

Finally finished the oven cabinet. The piece in the hole is just a façade until the appliances are placed.

Totoro's favorite part of the day... when Eric is finished!

Tomorrow is hooky day... the boys are going fishing.

October 28, 2010: More Cabinet Work

Eric is working hard, but you'll have to wait for a while to see the end result...

Lunch time! Guess we gotta get some chairs...

October 27, 2010: Oven Cabinetry

Words cannot describe Eric's day today... :$

But he still does his very best, no matter the challenge. And he is so neat!

Tomorrow, he will have another NEW helper...

October 26, 2010: More Detail Work on the Cabinets

Now that much of the cabinetry is installed, the tweeking begins. One of those areas is the subcounter for the island. I learned about spline joinery today, which Eric used to attach the two pieces of the subcounter.
A spline is a strip of wood, plywood, or other material (such as Masonite) inserted into matching grooves or plows, along the edges of two boards. The purpose is to reinforce and align the edges.

The triangle is just a sample piece. The actual joint was finished earlier today (with its marks to match the pieces), just in time for the inaugural lunch on the island!

Eric getting ready for tomorrow's task: installing the oven/microwave cabinet.

October 25, 2010: More Island Work

Eric and his NEW helper, Michael, finished the façade for the island and installed the subcounter. Bobo the electrician also dropped by to admire their work.

October 24, 2010: Island Work

Eric and Roger installed the island cabinet and created the frame for the façade to hide the pipes. Pretty cool cabinetry work on their part!

They also set in the range top stove (just for looks now and to get it out of the way).

October 23, 2010: Back to Work

Eric is done with wind turbines for now, so it's back to work on more elegant things.

Today Darrin and Eric installed the cabinets permanently and put together the cabinet that houses the refrigerator.

October 13, 2010: More Visitors

Here are a couple more views of the work recently done, including the pantry floor which I didn't realize had been done until I was showing Tish the house!

Tish Buhr came by after our lunch at Beckie's. She is especially loving the kitchen. (Baking classes, anyone?)

And the Harris family came by after joining us for a long-awaited dinner together! Rachel and Jacob especially loved the "pink" room!
